(discounts for using multiple Uber services).Data Analytics and Machine LearningOne of Uber‘s key assets is its vast trove of rider and driver data. Uber collects information on millions of trips each day, including pick-up/drop-off locations, routes, time of day, traffic, and user ratings. Uber employs data scientists and machine learning experts to translate this raw data into actionable insights. Some key areas where Uber applies big data and AI:• Demand Prediction: Uber uses historical data and machine learning to forecast rider demand by time and location. This allows Uber to nudge drivers to high-demand areas before a surge happens, reducing wait times and pricing volatility. • Smart Dispatch: Uber‘s algorithms match riders with the optimal driver based on factors like distance, direction, traffic, and past ride history. This improves pick-up times and vehicle utilization.• Route Optimization: Uber suggests the most efficient routes to drivers based on real-time traffic data. Uber‘s navigation algorithms learn from every trip and get smarter over time.• Dynamic Pricing: Uber‘s surge pricing system automatically raises fares during busy periods to incentivize drivers and allocate rides to those who value them most. The amount of the price hike is determined by AI and game theory. • Driver Incentives: Uber builds heatmaps to show drivers where to find clusters of riders. The company also offers targeted bonuses and incentives to drivers to ensure optimal coverage.• Risk Assessment: Uber uses machine learning to detect and preempt safety issues like collisions, speeding, and driving under the influence. Uber has also applied data science to screen drivers and prevent fraud.By turning data into intelligence, Uber can optimize its network in real-time and make better long-term strategic decisions. Data is the fuel that powers Uber‘s growth engine.Financial Performance and ChallengesDespite its incredible growth and impact, Uber is not yet a profitable company. Uber lost $1.8 billion in 2018 on revenue of $11.3 billion, and continues to burn massive amounts of cash.Uber‘s losses stem from its strategy of aggressive global expansion and desire to gain market share at all costs. The company has prioritized growth over profits, using heavy rider discounts and driver incentives to attract users and edge out rivals. Uber has also invested billions in self-driving car R&D with no payoff yet.In the long run, Uber will need to reduce its costs, raise its prices, and improve its unit economics to reach profitability. Uber has faced opposition from taxi companies, labor unions, and local governments who argue that the company unfairly skirts laws and undercuts the competition. Uber‘s business model relies on classifying drivers as independent contractors rather than employees. This allows Uber to avoid costs like minimum wage, overtime, and benefits. But several lawsuits and state rulings have challenged this arrangement, and reclassifying drivers as employees would significantly increase Uber‘s expenses. As Uber prepares for its initial public offering (IPO), addressing these financial and regulatory risks will. #1 Lately I've really been enjoying seeing knives with a very consistent and dark KU finish (like the recent Milans or Yanicks) but I find for some makers this often translates to a thicker blade than I like. Does anyone have any suggestions as to makers with:- Dark (as close to black as possible) consistent KU finish- 240mm+ length- 53mm+ heel, ideally closer to 55-65mm range- Thinner grind - laser to midweightIn my mind, Yanick and Milan should fit this. Possibly some Maillets and JBs as well, but I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts. I'd prefer to stay with makers outside of Japan, but I'll consider anything that fits the above #2 Simon Krichbaum could fit that. I have really solid KUs from Maillet and JB but definitely more mid-weight than laser. #3 Simon Krichbaum could fit that. I have really solid KUs from Maillet and JB but definitely more mid-weight than laser. That's a good one. I definitely have my eye on his work across the boad #4 Simon's "Light" grind was still pretty thin. Maybe someone who had a Birgersson KU can comment on its laserness. #5 Simon's "Light" grind was still pretty thin. Maybe someone who had a Birgersson KU can comment on its laserness. Will keep an eye out for the "light: grindsBirg stuff is quite thin, I have a few #6 Also have a OEL Ku coming my way so will let you know if that fits the bill. Weight suggests its a uber laser, but KU is more "brut de forge". #7 Also have a OEL Ku coming my way so will let you know if that fits the bill.
