Dist COLDFIRE - Dist COLDFIRE - Arturia

Is designed to balance ease of use with sound design power. Trevor notes that this balance means you have plenty of sounds at your disposal, but crucially without having to go too deep to find them. Dist COLDFIRE is sick because it is distortion with modulation, and it’s all working together, so it gives you a lot of sonic options without having to think too hard about it - especially in the world of distortion, ‘cause that’s a sound you have a dial in. - Trevor The ability to tap into various aspects of your sound - not just crank the ‘drive’ control - is a highlight for Zaire. He mentions that it’s a great tool for shaping your sound beyond distortion, pointing out its ability to remove or boost certain frequencies for a better balance or more ‘present’ quality. Everything in Dist COLDFIRE is right there. If there’s too much low, roll off the lows, if there’s highs, roll off the highs, if it’s not enough, add highs. - Zaire Color & transformation At times during our session, Zaire and Trevor become engrossed with tweaking settings, exploring different modes, and flicking through presets with Dist COLDFIRE. They seem to find something new with every click, whether it’s something intentional or unexpected, which seems to reflect Dist COLDFIRE’s nature as an effect. All the options are there, for pinpoint sound sculpting, creative experimentation, aggressive sonic transformation, and beyond: the choice is yours. These are the ways that we use distortion, but as you can see, you can find any spot in your track to use it. - Trevor “Dist COLDFIRE just gives you so many options to be creative with what you want to do with distortion, which I think is really dope.” - Zaire Software Effects Dist COLDFIRE. The OrphanagemeetsDist COLDFIRE Los Angeles, USA: Zaire Koalo and Trevor Brown, AKA music production duo The Orphanage, have lent their creative talents to everyone from Lizzo to Kelly Clarkson to Kehlani. But whether they’re working with the A-listers or getting experimental in the box, their workflow brims with curiosity and infectious energy. We spent the day in their Sherman Oaks studio to see where Dist COLDFIRE fits into their free-flowing setup. Zaire Koalo Starting off his musical journey on the saxophone and piano, Zaire discovered the joy of making beats at an early age, and simply never looked back. This multi-instrumental background lends him a musical sensibility and hands-on approach that shines through in all of his projects - you know when it’s a Koalo beat. Trevor Brown Trevor considers himself a self-taught producer out of necessity. He started off playing piano, moving over to drums and playing in bands; he took up producing so he could make his own demos. He was approached by other artists keen to get in on his new-found production skills, and the momentum continued from there. As individuals, Zaire and Trevor each bring different skill sets and creative color to their projects. As a team, The Orphanage is a Grammy Award-winning creative force to be reckoned with. Zaire notes that, besides the amazing artists they’ve worked with and the accolades they’ve collected, one of his favorite things about being a producer is working with good people through a process. Going through the process of creating the music is what I typically love to experience, especially with good people like Trevor, Oak, we have two other people on the team - Keith and Alex - who are amazing. Just going through the process… is something that I love to do. - Zaire Their introduction to Arturia came via the discovery of Jun-6 V. Whenever they needed a retro sound, this modeled analog icon became their go-to. Next came the Jup-8 V, which they rely on for its archetypal brass sounds heard on countless chart-topping records. It was like, ok these plugins are dope. This company is amazing, they’re really capturing the color of what the actual sounds felt like for those keyboards back then. Once I got a hold of those two plugins, I felt like Arturia knows what they’re doing. - Zaire On Dist COLDFIRE As with all Arturia instruments and effects, Dist COLDFIRE

Topic: Coldfire install issues? (Read 1801 times) Anyone else successfully buy and then activate coldfire but not be able to install it?? « Last Edit: August 31, 2022, 03:11:19 am by eyestalk » Logged I initially had this problem but when I ran the ASC again, it auto-updated and I was able to install Dist COLDFIRE. « Last Edit: August 30, 2022, 11:33:18 pm by pmwaring » Logged Same problem here. I re-installed ASC. Didn't work for me.The issue's just gone. I think it might be a delay on the Arturia servers. So give it some time. « Last Edit: August 31, 2022, 12:30:52 am by paulupper » Logged Mine has still not resolved. Logged Same issues - can't figure out how to get it installed. Have tried refreshing, restarting, etc. 12+ hours Logged I was able to install it ok but I have no presets on my M1 MacBook. Have uninstalled and reinstalled via ASC but to no avail. On my Intel iMac I did not have this issue. Weird and quite annoying. Logged

I played with COLDFIRE a lot before cracking the manual, I strongly suggest it is worth a reading since some features are not obvious. There is also a Tutorial mode that can be activated in the settings menu to help you quickly learn COLDFIRE and over 150 factory presets available in a searchable browser which can be sorted by name or type. Factory types include saturation, fuzz, overdrive, tube distortion, feedback and others. Of course you can make and save your own. The GUI size can be varied in 11 steps from 50% to 200% with 100% yielding 1,200 x 850 pixels for the advanced mode. In the lower right of the GUI there is selectable oversampling control providing Studio (normal) or Render mode – I found very little difference in latency or audio results between the two although CPU load increased about 2:1 in Render mode. There is a small CPU meter in the lower right corner that doubles as a panic switch which momentarily mutes the output, but if you have a serious runaway issue that continues after pausing your DAW playback, you can use the FeedBack Mute button also in the lower right section. This control latches and does not affect sound while tracks are playing, so I just left it on. But experimenting with it off, I never came up with any runaway howlround problems which shows Arturia have taken care with the internal gain strunture. In addition to the “usual” Redo/Undo functions (with separate undo histories for the A and B controls), there is a History window that provides a step-by-step account of every move you have made in COLDFIRE in a given session. And all the parameters, nearly 200 controls, are available for DAW automation if all the feedback and modulations are not enough for you.TechnicalOfficially supported in Win 8.1+ (64bit) and Arturia suggest using 4 -core 3.4 GHz or higher CPU with 4 GB RAM and 1 GB free hard disk space. Apple requires Mac OS 10.13+, 4 GB RAM, 4-core 3.4 GHz or higher CPU or M1, and 1 GB free hard disk space. Requires OpenGL 2.0 compatible GPU. Available as VST2, VST3, AAX, and Audio Unit.I used Dist COLDFIRE in REAPER and Studio One in a PC Audio Labs Rok Box PC (64 Bit Windows, 4-Core Intel i7-4770K, 3.5 GHz, and 16 GB RAM). At a 48 k sample rate latency appears to be either 100 or 148 samples in the Render quality mode, and 96 or 144 samples in the Studio quality mode depending on modules used – oddly I saw no other values in all my testing. At other DAW sample rates the latency changes proportionally. CPU load varied from about 0.5% to 2% in Studio quality mode and from about 1% to 4% in Render quality mode depending on modules and settings used. RAM use was under 200 MB.ConclusionArturia continue to deliver innovative and powerful audio tools – Dist COLDFIRE is another very powerful processor that proves once

Dist COLDFIRE from Arturia Arturia are back with a new FX processor that takes distortion in new directions – a Herculean dual-engine distortion/modulation monster with the ability to run one of 11 different distortion types in each engine, with the engines in series, parallel, stereo, mid-side and band split modes. And there are modulation, feedback, and feed-forward controls! What does all this mean? .... . . . . . . . . . . . Dist COLDFIRE running a Bit Crusher in parallel with Tape Saturation along with Feedback and Envelope Follower modulationWhat is It?Dist COLDFIRE is a distortion plug-in with two separate processing engines that each can operate with one of 11 different types of distortion including analogue styles (Tube, Transistor, Transformer, Germanium, Tape, and a unique Force effect from Arturia’s Bus FORCE parallel saturation module) – and digital processing (Rectifier, Bit Crusher, Bit Inverter, Wavefolder and Waveshaper). As mentioned, the two engines can be routed in series, parallel, stereo, mid-side and band split modes. If that were all, it would be very versatile, but there is much more. A look at the screenshot above (with the Advanced mode engaged) shows the layout with A controls on the left and B on the right, and each engine can have very different controls, as above, or may look identical if the same distortion processor is used for both. The sections at the top right and left corners, and those below the engine type section at left and right remain the same and are identical between A and B – these provide pre and post engine filters and have six filter types: low pass, band pass, high pass, notch and two comb-filter styles. In the centre above the colourful display is the Master section with familiar controls for input and output levels, a Color control that provides a tilt-EQ on the output signal, and an output Dry-Wet control. There is a small “link” icon between input and output knobs that causes the controls to counter-rotate in an attempt to keep the output level approximately level – this works OK for some mild settings but not effectively for the more extreme distortion modes. The colourful display is not just a pretty picture, but a dynamic graphic representation of the processing with the A effect on the left and B on the right. I found this display quite fun! The animation can be turned off to conserve CPU load, but I found it made no measurable difference in my system. In the top area of the colour display is the routing control, as shown opened below.. . . . . . . . . . . . Routing panel opened to show the five possible configurations and the “swap A for B” control.Immediately below the display is a panel that accesses two additional processes – dynamics and feedback. Dynamics includes a wide-band compressor, a multi-band compressor and a limiter. These can act on the signal pre-distortion or post and have a minimal set of
