A bone in 2013 with the release of Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded – a crowdfunded remake of Leisure Suit Larry and the Land of the Lounge Lizards. Its reception was mixed, and though there was word that other titles in the series may get the remake treatment, nothing has yet come to fruition. In fact, the only escapade Larry Laffer has been up to in recent times is a gamified casino game called Larry Casino, which seems like a fitting end.Who knows if Larry Laffer will ever return to the world of videogames, but then, perhaps the more pertinent question is; does anyone really want him to? The original Leisure Suit Larry games were of a time, and, like the Carry On films, they have no place in the modern world. Sure, their humour was more intelligent than today’s in your face nudity and crudity, but it’s no longer appreciated. They say that every dog has its day, and I believe it’s time to accept that Larry has had his. Co-owner and editor-in-chiefAn avid gamer since discovering the wonders of the Acorn Electron in the '80s, Rich has nearly played more games than he's had hot dinners. Not one to put all his eggs in one basket, Rich is happy to play games of all genres, but he particularly enjoys racing games and anything that's full of non-stop action, especially if it includes a good dose of humour, horror or crudeness!

In the alley, where everything is done inside a blender rather than at Sierra's headquarters (which is a bit of a shame, because the original's was better). The soundtrack is excellent, and it blends in with what you are doing most of the time. My favorite piece of music comes when you are traveling inside the taxi, as well as when you are looking inside the convenience store. If you like the music in this game, you can play most of them by using the jukebox inside Lefty's, but at a price. The sound effects are right up there with those from Leisure Suit Larry 5. You don't get the bodily function sounds when you press the function keys, but who cares? The BadCatching a taxi between locations is quite expensive, and unless you are prepared to win at least $1000 at the casino, you will find yourself running out of money real fast. Also, the game can be quite short, especially if you know how to pick up women in real life. The Bottom LineThis is a great Sierra remake that takes Larry Laffer in the Nineties, complete with stunning graphics and sound. However, the problem that exist in the original version are still present here. If you brought a PC in the Nineties, chances are that you already played this version. But if you happen to own one of the compilation packs, you will get the best of both worlds. Play both of them, and decide which one you like best. Enjoyably humorous adventure The Leisure Suit Larry series is another of Sierra's long running adventure franchises, broadly similar in style to King's Quest or Police Quest, but with a healthy amount of broad, adult humour. This instalment maintains the sense of fun seen in previous instalments, but focuses less on story and instead plays out more like an extended game show with a few puzzles thrown in for good measure. For those who have never been introduced to Larry, he is a loveable loser who pretty much only has one thing in mind: ladies. Previous games have seen him pursuing love in all kinds of places but this one takes him to a fancy health spa after winning an all expenses trip on a game show. His goal this time round is to win the heart of one of the many eligible (or not so eligible in some cases) ladies who also happen to be there. While there are traditional inventory-based puzzles which will be familiar to players of past games, there is a greater emphasis on conversations with the various potential partners which involve picking the right choices to swing them round in Larry's favour. This episode in Larry's life makes for an entertaining, if slightly pointless, excursion into the adventure genre. Those looking for strong narrative will be disappointed, but this is made up for by the general sense of fun that permeates the game. The smutty, low brow jokes and black humour of earlier games have been toned down (although Larry can still die in various amusing ways) and have been replaced by gags with broader appeal, but which are still not for kids. If you're looking for a bit of aimless fun, then Leisure Suit Larry 6 fits the bill and it will certainly bring a few smiles to your face. Shape Up or Slip Out! is all about looking good! This Leisure Suit Larry game is dedicated to those of us that put a lot of emphasis on looks. And, what better way to do it, than to participate in a game show, a sort. Of pastiche of all the shows that are produced in and around beauty contests. There are a lot of laughs to be had in this 6th title, and there are also lots of locations where Larry can go about to gain the favors of ladies. You will visit quite a few different locations, but a big part of the game is delivered via the in game TV show format. All in all, it's still a tongue in cheek funny game, with a graphical set that is a bit more advanced than older games in the series, and also with a lot of fun puzzles. There are inventory based puzzles to last you (and obfuscate your advancement) and there are also more specific puzzles, that are repeated, which deal with some of Larry's mundane actions, if you know what I mean! Still, a very chill, not too sleazy game, and while it has lost some of its edge, it's nevertheless playable and will put a smile on your face. The Leisure Suit Larry series created by Al Lowe is somewhat a monument of the past.Featuring Larry Laffer, a balding man in his 40s unsuccessfully attempting to hit on attractive women, it was full of innuendo and double entendres that by today’s standards would probably seem tame, but still, in retrospect, it was all in rather poor taste. You could have unprotected sex with a prostitute, for example, possibly contracting a deadly sexually transmitted disease in the process. And women were constantly objectified, with Larry just looking to get lucky in any way he could. It was lewd and offensive, but at the time it was something daring; something that felt a little bit naughty, and so people loved it.Starting with Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, there were no less than six Leisure Suit Larry games developed and published by Sierra between 1987 and 1996. Being graphic adventure games, they were laid back affairs that actually required some degree of thought – no one was going to get any smut without at least some brainpower. Mind you, in all honesty, they weren’t actually that raunchy at all. I mean they had their moments, but those playing them in the hope of seeing some seriously steamy action would generally be left rather disappointed. The series came to a sticky end in 1999, when work on the seventh title in the series ceased due to Sierra’s adventure game department being disbanded. At that point Al Lowe left Sierra too, and it seemed like Leisure Suit Larry’s escapades were over. Well, actually, they were for Larry Laffer at least. In 2004 the Leisure Suit Larry series made a return, but many things had changed. Al Lowe was not involved in its development in any way, the gameplay had made the jump to 3D, and no longer was Larry Laffer the star; in Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude you played as his nephew, a student by the name of Larry Lovage. The tone of the game had changed too – while the original Leisure Suit Larry titles teased their audiences with the possibility of some nudity, Magna Cum Laude gave fans an eyeful, and the double entendres were replaced with straight up rude jokes and foul language.Larry Lovage would go on another escapade in 2009, once again without the input of series creator Al Lowe. Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, developed by Team17 of Worms fame, was a disaster. Critics blasted it for its mindless, repetitive gameplay, and whilst they had at least toned down the nudity, the language was worse than ever. The real kick in the teeth was the game’s atrocious sense of humour, however, that really soured the experience. Box Office Bust was universally panned, and deservedly so. No more Larry Lovage games would be made, and no one really cared.Fans of Larry Laffer were thrownThe Sierra Chest - Leisure Suit Larry s Casino: Demos
Player Reviews Average score: 3.8 out of 5 (based on 114 ratings with 6 reviews) Lecherous loser launches ludicrous liaisons! The GoodNote: this review refers to the content of the original version as well as the changes made in this remake.Originally released in 1987, Leisure Suit Larry was Al Lowe's first major work as a designer, and the beginning of Sierra's third long-running series (after King's Quest and Space Quest). With this adventure, the company boldly went into the realm of naughty humor. The developers could have just inserted dirty jokes and nudity for a cheap sensation; indeed, they have already done so with the much more primitive prototype on which this game was based - Softporn Adventure (which also received a curious graphical Japan-exclusive remake). But Leisure Suit Larry is miles above those earlier attempts in terms of writing and presentation. They not only kept reasonably good taste in dialogues and descriptions, but invested in the gameplay at least as much as in the then-shocking adult content.Indeed, today many people my age remember Leisure Suit Larry mostly as a "guilty pleasure" from their teenage years, a silly old game they tried out when their parents weren't watching. What is often overlooked is the fact this was also one of the best adventure games of its generation. It had a fairly simple, yet beautifully flowing gameplay consisting of interwoven tasks elegantly strung together. While King's Quest III was very difficult, and the first two Space Quests fairly straightforward and streamlined, Leisure Suit Larry opted for intuitive, yet non-linear exploration of several locations available almost at any time and packed with important items and encounters. This approach made sure you were neither overwhelmed by complexity and clueless wandering, nor whisked away from familiar locations without any chance of returning. The puzzles consist almost overwhelmingly of getting objects either required by the game's female characters or needed to obtain them. These simple tasks are arranged in such a way that the player is compelled to explore as much as possible, making frequent trips to different locations and keeping in mind puzzles that can.
